Enid Residence - July 2003

In July 2003 Eerie Oklahoma was contacted by an Enid resident reporting strange activity in her home.  The owner's husband works out of town during the week, so it is just the woman and her step-daughter in the home most of the time.  The daughter had just recently moved in and was only to be there temporarily.  The owner reported several occurrences taking place over several years.  Most of them she blew off to keep herself from thinking she was going crazy or scaring herself into a frenzy.  And then the ceiling fan incident happened...

They had originally contacted Teri with the PITT team in Tulsa and she referred it to me since they were not near here.  We started out with an initial interview.  Team member Shirley McCoy accompanied me on this investigation, and we also used a "sensitive" person for the first time on an investigation.  Upon her trip through the house, she had no impressions in any of the rooms, but was drawn to a picture of a woman and "felt" that she was ill or needed some medical attention.  We told the home owner of this and we found out there had been some concerns about the health of the woman's mother.  To this date, she has not been able to get her to go to the doctor, so we can not validate this information as of yet.

The two residents reported several different things leading up to the ceiling fan incident.  Things such as the VCR starting to fast forward by itself, the stereo cabinet door slamming shut, a chair moving, the kitchen light being turned on when they had both witnessed it off earlier.  Then later that night the ceiling fan fell from the ceiling landing on the bed of the sleeping daughter.  When the owner's husband came home and inspected the ceiling, he found no reasonable explanation for the fan to have come down.  The wood was not stripped where the screws were torn out, nothing strange at all. Needless to say, that was enough to make them finally call someone in for a second opinion.

We did a basic investigation, using video, which decided to not work that evening, digital cameras, electro-magnetic detection, and audio recording.  We went through the home, finding out the "hot spots" in the house.  One thing that has happened on more than one occasion, and has happened since our investigation, is that a black misty mass appears in the hallway and seems to have some sort of force to it, having knocked the home owner down at one time.  Another time she witnessed the black vapor coming down the hall toward her bedroom.  We captured a picture of a black mist in the dining room that evening.  I sent the picture to be analyzed and there was not a reasonable explanation for it.  The analyst made some suggestions on how to recreate it and upon trying them all, we were unable to.  Here is that picture:

This is not a finger or thumb or hair or anything else in front of the lens.  We tried that.  In the original picture, the mass looks more misty and not as dense as it appears here.  The dining room was brightly lit when this picture was taken.  We took several pictures in the same area and not one of them came out like this, they were all normal.

Several other things have been reported.  One was a thick coating of dust on the toilet seat with no source - dust like that which gathers on the top of ceiling fan blades when you don't clean them frequently.  Water has been left running in the sink.  If there were children in the house that might be explained away, but a grown woman alone in her house is not likely to leave the water running.  The owner reported that one night as she was sleeping, she felt something like wind sweep up her leg and her bed physically shook.. When she got up to examine what was happening, she discovered her underpants had been ripped.  There are four cats living in the house and that would explain things like noises or things going bump in the night, but she puts them in the garage at night.  That doesn't seem to stop them from getting in, however.  It seems that the cats have been discovered in the house more than once after having been put outside.  We checked all around - there is not a physical way for them to get back in without a door being opened.  There are no openings under any of the doors either.

We had been taking some pictures in one of the bedrooms and we kept getting strange things in the pictures.  After messing around with it for quite some time, we decided it was probably reflections from the light seeping in around the blinds, or the mirror, so we decided to wait until it got a little darker.  We congregated in the living room and talked about the house, etc. until it got darker.  After a while, I returned to the bedroom with the camera.  When I backed out the door, my foot hit something on the floor that had not been there earlier.  I turned on the light and noticed a picture that had been hanging on the wall all evening (and for six years for that matter) had been removed and was sitting on the floor leaned against the wall very neatly.  None of us had left the living room and there was no way it could have fallen without us hearing it.  And the nail was still perfectly in place.  Here are pictures of that:

From the way the picture was so neatly placed, we do not think it simply fell, especially since the nail was still pointing upward and there was not stress mark on the wall as if the nail would have shifted causing it to fall.  We then decided to leave the tape recorder in the room after conducting a short EVP session.  I made sure there were no cats, left the electro-magnetic detector in the room and we went out and shut the door.  After about 30 minutes, the detector starting beeping loudly.  We went to check it out and found nothing out of the ordinary.  This happened in this room another time that evening, but nowhere else in the house.  I did not collect any EVP that I can tell, but will be analyzing the tapes again.  I did get the detector going off on the tape but no reason for it.

We did conclude that the strange pictures were indeed reflections and discounted them.  We have no idea what was setting off the meter.  Since the investigation, the husband has witnessed things happening in the house as well.  One morning, he was up and the woman was asleep and the cats were outside.  The front door slammed very loudly and he got up to check it out and there were the cats, now inside.  The woman got up rather irritated with him for waking her and he explained that he did not do it.  Another time he heard a loud knocking noise and went to investigate to find nothing.  Before, it was the woman that was having the experiences, but now he is having them, too.

We don't know if we stirred something up or not, but it seems that the home is still active.  We cannot say what type of activity this is.  Sometimes it seems like it is negative, but sometimes it seems harmless.  The house was built in the 70's, so it is not necessarily old.  The only thing the owner knows about the history of it are the names of some of the previous owners and that when she moved in, it had sat empty for a year.  The previous owner merely stated she just didn't like the layout of the house, and the neighbors seem to be a bit shocked that the current owner likes it there.  But none of them will say why that is strange.  We think they know more than they are letting on.  I plan to keep in touch with this family about what is happening there.  At this time the owner wishes to remain anonymous.
